Hamburg, 1 October 2024 - ENOVA has acquired the wind farm construction project in Jembke from BayWa r.e. With a total capacity of 15.3 MW, the wind farm will generate around 28,000 MWh of electricity from renewable energies annually after its planned commissioning on 1 May 2025.

Last Friday, ENOVA and BayWa r.e. signed the purchase agreement for the Jembke wind farm, which is currently under construction. This comprises a total of three wind turbines - two Nordex N149 turbines with an output of 5.7 MW each and one Nordex N131 with an output of 3.9 MW. BayWa will ensure the turnkey handover of the project, while ENOVA will operate the wind farm on a long-term basis as investor and operator.

This is a further targeted step by the company to expand its wind farm portfolio and make a significant contribution to the success of the energy transition in Germany.

Hamburg, 30 September 2024 – ENOVA and ALTUS have entered into a strategic partnership for the repowering of the old turbines in the municipalities of Jembke and Barwedel. With a planned total output of 68 MW, the project is one of the largest in the whole of Lower Saxony.

ENOVA took over the operation of the old turbines from a private investment fund at the beginning of the year, while ALTUS positioned itself as the project developer for the repowering. Within a few months, the two companies finalised the repowering plans and are now working together to modernise the site. As part of the repowering, the old Vestas V80 turbines are to be replaced by ten new Nordex 170 class turbines, each with a capacity of 6.8 MW. This will enable around 43,000 households to be supplied with green electricity in future.

The application in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) is expected to be submitted this year. The responsibilities for the project have already been clearly allocated: ALTUS will lead the project development, while ENOVA will be responsible for structuring the financing, operation and stakeholder management of the repowered plants.

Hamburg, 24 September 2024 - ENOVA is continuing to successfully implement its ambitious growth strategy: With the acquisition of 15 wind farms with a repowering potential of more than 250 MW, the company is once again setting a clear signal for the expansion of renewable energies in Germany in 2024.  ENOVA is thus a significant step closer to its goal of having a total volume of 1 GW in its own portfolio by 2025.

However, the company has not only accelerated the acquisition of existing wind farms this year - it is also successfully forging new partnerships: three new repowering partnerships have already been concluded, with five more to be added by the end of the year.

Bunderhee, September 2024 - ENOVA was able to secure decisive EEG surcharges for the repowering projects in Gehrde and Reher in the latest EEG summer auction. This brings the company one step closer to commissioning the wind farms, which is scheduled for 2026 and 2025. 

ENOVA is planning to erect three Enercon E138 turbines with a nominal output of 4.2 MW each in Gehrde, Lower Saxony. In Schleswig-Holstein, the repowering of a Nordex N133 wind turbine with a capacity of 4.2 MW is planned. The two repowering projects are part of ENOVA's comprehensive strategy of replacing old turbines in existing wind farms with more modern turbines, thereby significantly increasing the efficiency and performance of the sites.

Hamburg, August 2024 – In cooperation with the SIGNAL IDUNA Group and its real estate and asset management subsidiary HANSAINVEST Real Assets GmbH, the ENOVA Group is further expanding its own wind farm portfolio and securing financing for an additional 250 MW of capacity.

ENOVA and HANSAINVEST Real Assets have included the first two wind farm projects in the ENOVA IPP II. The two repowering projects in Emsland, Lower Saxony, with a total capacity of 87 MW, are currently under construction and are scheduled to be commissioned in 2025 and 2026. Further wind farms in the Weser-Ems region with a planned capacity of 180 MW are already in the approval planning phase and will gradually expand the ENOVA IPP II platform.

Hamburg, July 2024 – With the acquisition of the Lahstedt Wind Farm in the district of Peine, Lower Saxony, the ENOVA Group continues to strengthen its partnership with the project developer WindStrom. Together, the two companies aim to future-proof the wind farm through repowering.

 The Lahstedt Wind Farm, which has been operated by Danish private individuals since its completion in 2006, comprises a total of five Vestas V80 turbines, each with a capacity of 2 MW. As part of the planned repowering, they will be replaced by up to five new wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.8 MW. Lahstedt is already the third repowering project where ENOVA and WindStrom have collaborated, following the Hänigsen and Schacht-Konrad wind farms.

"Lahstedt is a good example of how our strategy – expanding partnerships and leveraging existing potential through the repowering of old wind farms – works. Hamburg, April 2024 – ENOVA acquired six wind farms from private individuals in three different German states in the first quarter of 2024. What sets the most recent investments apart is that five of the six wind farms were sold to the company by private individuals from Denmark.

The investment by ENOVA Value II comprises three wind farms in Lower Saxony, two in Brandenburg and one in North Rhine-Westphalia. The total capacity of the 16 wind turbines is around 30 MW. Since the turbines are an average of 21 years old, ENOVA has begun preparations for repowering the various wind farms. Repowering offers the potential to increase the wind farms’ total output to approximately 100 MW. This would mean supplying around 90,000 households across Germany with green energy going forward, compared with just under 16,000 thus far.

“In the course of these transactions, we have built up a strong network in Denmark and are pleased to develop suitable solutions with private individuals time and again,” says René Meyer, Head of Investment & Asset Management at ENOVA. “We intend to expand this network during the year and will continue to target private individuals looking to sell their plants swiftly and smoothly.”

Hamburg, April 2024 - As part of a joint venture, ENOVA and Triodos Energy Transition Europe Fund are driving forward the repowering of the Midlum wind farm in the district of Cuxhaven in Lower Saxony. Both parties now hold a 50 percent stake in the wind farm.

The long-standing operator of the wind farm in Midlum, Triodos Energy Transition Europe Fund, brought ENOVA on board in 2021 to maintain and service the turbines. Following the new cooperation, ENOVA now also serves as an expert to support the impact investor from the Netherlands in making the site fit for the future.

The cooperation with Triodos Energy Transition Europe Fund further expands ENOVA's footprint in the region. "Institutional partnerships with renowned investors such as Triodos represent an important growth factor for ENOVA," says Hauke Brümmer, CEO of the ENOVA Group. "Therefore, I am delighted that we have already set the course for a successful and long-term cooperation in the negotiations of recent weeks."

The Midlum wind farm currently comprises a total of 70 Enercon E-40 turbines with a total output of 35 MW. ENOVA and Triodos Energy Transition Europe Fund aim to increase this capacity for example by using a hybrid technology, consisting of wind energy and photovoltaic systems or the use of battery storages. As part of the ongoing collaboration, the two companies are now setting the course to continue operating the wind farm beyond the end of the turbines' service life.

March 2024 – ENOVA signed supply agreements in late February for nine wind turbines manufactured by Vestas. After four years of planning, this marks the start of the construction phase for the largest onshore project in the company’s history.

Through this repowering project, ENOVA intends to upgrade the Meppen wind farm using state-of-the-art technology. The 14 current Enercon E-66 wind turbines will be replaced by nine Vestas V172 turbines. Each has an output of 7.2 megawatts, putting them among the largest, most cutting-edge wind turbines installed in Germany today.

Dismantling of the first five old turbines is to begin in March. The new wind turbines are then scheduled to be installed before the nine remaining original turbines are dismantled. The repowered wind farm is expected to go into operation in the first quarter of 2026.

With a total output of 65 megawatts, the Meppen wind farm will have capacity to supply electricity to around 46,500 three-person households per year – far exceeding the needs of the 37,000 residents of the town of Meppen. This means the company is not only contributing to the energy transition in Lower Saxony, but also making strides toward its strategic target of developing a total of 1 gigawatt in German onshore wind projects by 2025.

January 2024 – Having obtained approval under Germany’s Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG), ENOVA is to sell its stake in the Schneifelhöhe wind farm to Stadtwerke Karlsruhe and hand over the project. The wind farm is scheduled to go into operation in mid-2026. It is located on the Schneifel ridge in the Bitburg-Prüm district, a mountain range considered to be the best wind location in the Eifel region. 

According to the current plans, the wind farm comprises eleven Nordex N163 wind turbines, each with an output of 5.7 megawatts. The wind farm has a total capacity of 62.7 megawatts, making it the largest wind power project currently approved in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is expected to generate some 200 million kilowatt-hours of green energy per year, enabling more than 72,000 two-person households to be supplied with electricity in the future. The project is a joint venture between Energieversorgung Mittelrhein AG (evm), THÜGA Erneuerbare Energien GmbH & Co. KG (THEE) and ENOVA. The partners worked on the project for close to ten years before approval for the wind farm was granted in accordance with Germany’s Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG).

Having received the green light in December, ENOVA has handed over the project and found a new partner – Stadtwerke Karlsruhe, the city’s municipal utilities company – to join the existing cooperation with evm and THEE. “We are delighted that, after ten years in development, the joint Schneifelhöhe project was granted approval. In Stadtwerke Karlsruhe, we have found an ideal successor to take over our stake in the project as well as oversee the upcoming construction and operating phase. We wish the three partners every success,” says ENOVA CEO Hauke Brümmer.

Stadtwerke Karlsruhe now holds a 33.3 percent stake in the wind farm, with the remaining shares divided equally between THEE and evm. The wind farm will be constructed and operated jointly by the three partners.

The municipal utilities company has been investing in the expansion of wind power for many years. Completion of the Schneifelhöhe wind farm will increase its installed wind power capacity by a further 21 megawatts. “For us, this investment represents another major step in the expansion of our own renewable energy generating capacities,” says Michael Homann, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Karlsruhe, who is looking forward to the collaboration within this new partnership.

January 2024 – ENOVA has expanded its portfolio, acquiring three more wind farms in late 2023. The company plans to acquire additional old wind farms with a total capacity of 100 MW in 2024.

The three old wind farms acquired in Germany at the end of 2023 – Boldecker Land in Lower Saxony, Wilmersdorf in Brandenburg and Müggenburg/Panschow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania – together equate to around 50 MW. Currently comprising 30 old turbines, these three wind farms have a repowering potential of more than 100 MW. With just half the number of turbines, the wind farms will in the future supply power to roughly 70,000 households. ENOVA intends to work with regional partners to fully exploit this potential and enhance its position in these locations. This is the first time ENOVA has made an investment in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The successful acquisition of the three old wind farms has created a strong footing for ENOVA Value II, which was founded in April 2023. “We plan to acquire old wind farms with a capacity of at least 100 MW this year, putting us well on track to achieve our target of one billion in assets under management by the end of 2025,” says René Meyer, Head of Investment & Asset Management at ENOVA. “We are ready to execute additional acquisitions with interested sellers swiftly and smoothly. In addition to forging ahead with its projects and expanding its team, the company streamlined its processes and implemented a new management structure in 2023, thus paving the way for its future growth. 

Shortly before year-end, ENOVA has the pleasure of announcing that – after almost 10 years of intensive planning – the company obtained approval under Germany’s Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) for the Schneifelhöhe wind farm. This is the largest project in the Rhineland-Palatinate region, with a planned output of 63 MW.

December 2023 – The ENOVA Group has acquired the wind farm in Pattensen, bolstering its position in the Hanover region. At the same time, ENOVA is expanding its wind farm portfolio in Germany to more than 350 MW.

This acquisition brings the number of wind farms owned by ENOVA in the Hanover region to three. The Pattensen wind farm, which went into operation in 2012, is to be repowered. Its four Enercon E-70 turbines – each with a capacity of 2.3 MW – are to be successively replaced with more efficient models.

“We are grateful to LHI Group for the swift and professional transaction process. The wind farm represents another strategic investment for us in Lower Saxony,” says René Meyer, Head of Investment & Asset Management at ENOVA.

Having started talks in summer 2023, LHI and ENOVA wasted no time in completing the transaction. “We would like to thank ENOVA for their constructive and solution-driven approach. Although we generally pursue a buy-and-hold strategy, sales also form part of our comprehensive asset management,” says Franz Unterbichler, Managing Director of LHI Kapitalverwaltungsgesellschaft mbH.

LPA-CGR provided legal advice on the transaction to ENOVA. Commercial and technical due diligence was carried out in-house by the seasoned investment team as well as experts from the technical operations management team.

December 2023 – The ENOVA Group has set itself ambitious targets for the years ahead. To help ensure its success, the company has reinforced its leadership structure, expanding its management team from one to three. From December 1, 2023, Hauke Brümmer will be joined at the helm by Hendrik Böschen and Björn Burau.

ENOVA has expanded its management team with effect from December 1, 2023. Hendrik Böschen has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Björn Burau as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Hauke Brümmer, previously the ENOVA Group’s sole Managing Director, will take on the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

This new leadership structure ensures that ENOVA is fit for the future and best prepared for the anticipated rapid growth and associated ever more complex processes, structures and management tasks, as well as strategic issues. The future management team will have a stronger focus on pursuing additional growth strategies and developing the business areas.

According to future CEO Hauke Brümmer, expanding the management team is a mission-critical move: “I am confident that the new management structure will enable us to further hone the development of our business areas and accelerate the energy transition. Looking ahead, I am delighted to have Hendrik Böschen and Björn Burau at my side as highly skilled partners.”

Hendrik Böschen has been working in the wind industry for 14 years, most recently as General Manager of Deutsche Windtechnik AG in Bremen. His industry network is correspondingly extensive. As COO of ENOVA, he is responsible for project development, service and technical operations management. For Hendrik Böschen, the company stands for determination and dynamism: “In the past, ENOVA has continued to evolve and tap into new business areas. I see great scope for developing the business areas even further and look forward to bringing my experience to bear.”

Björn Burau has been with ENOVA for more than six years, most recently as Team Leader Investment & Asset Management. As CFO, he will be responsible for investment and asset management, commercial management, finance and financial control. His sights are already firmly set on the targets ahead: “Over the next three years, we will finance projects amounting to around EUR 700 million. Thanks to our new management structure and motivated team, I have no doubt that we will rise to this challenge.”

November 2023 – ENOVA has acquired the Schiphorst wind farm, further expanding its portfolio in Schleswig-Holstein. The purchase is one of a total of ten repowering projects this year.

ENOVA has expanded its portfolio with an additional wind farm in northern Germany. Built in 2002, the Schiphorst wind farm is to be repowered, with the four current NEG Micon NM60/1000 wind turbines replaced by larger, more efficient models. This could increase the electricity generated by the wind farm each year fivefold. “We believe that Schleswig-Holstein offers added growth potential for wind energy and are delighted to have strengthened our presence in the region by acquiring the Schiphorst wind farm,” says René Meyer, Senior Investment Manager at ENOVA. “We are already consulting closely with local residents to firm up plans for the potential repowering.”

As ENOVA’s third repowering project in Schleswig-Holstein, the Schiphorst wind farm marks an important step toward achieving the company’s strategic target of one billion euros in assets under management. “Our strength lies in our ability to execute. September 2023 – In 2023, ENOVA commissions 40 MW, secures contract for 22 MW and expands portfolio, acquiring a further 100 MW. As for 2024, construction of 160 MW is scheduled to begin and approvals for 300 MW are expected. The company continues to make strides toward its target of developing a total of 1 gigawatt (GW) in German onshore wind projects by 2025.

ENOVA is pleased to announce that commissioning work has begun on the repowering project in Waldfeucht, North Rhine-Westphalia, which is being carried out in partnership with Frauenrath Group and BMR Energy Solutions GmbH (BMR). The wind farm project comprises the installation of seven Nordex N163 5.X wind turbines. In addition, a contract for four Enercon E-160 5.56 MW turbines in Emsland, Lower Saxony, was secured in the latest tender under the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). This means that all conditions for installing the four wind turbines and their commissioning in 2025 have now been met. ENOVA and the local landowners will operate the four turbines.

The company is continuing to expand its portfolio by implementing repowering projects and acquiring old wind farms. The existing portfolio is set to grow by more than 100 MW in 2023, partly through the acquisition of old wind farms. At the same time, the broader outlook for greenfield and repowering projects is promising. In 2024, ENOVA will start the construction processes required for around 160 MW and expects to receive approval for roughly 300 MW.

July 2023 – The Meppen and Börger/Breddenberg wind farm projects are forging ahead. The district of Emsland has granted approval for 100 MW in accordance with Germany’s Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG). This marks an important milestone on the journey to repowering. Together with the Uplengen project, which is ready for development, construction equivalent to around 120 MW is slated for 2024. This corresponds to electricity for some 113,000 two-person households and a total investment of EUR 180 million.

These two approvals represent a major success for the entire ENOVA team. “The commitment and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved in the projects is impressive. It is down to their dedication that the approvals were so swiftly granted,” says ENOVA Managing Director Hauke Brümmer, praising the team.

Initial Germany-wide approval for V172 wind turbines

The project in Meppen is set to be the most powerful wind farm in ENOVA’s history, with a planned total output of around 65 MW. The wind farm will use the latest Vestas wind turbines. In Börger/Breddenberg, the company is to install four Enercon E-160 wind turbines with a total output of 22.2 MW.

Commissioning planned for 2025

The project development team’s main focus will now be on construction planning. As things currently stand, ENOVA expects the Börger/Breddenberg and Meppen sites to be commissioned in March 2025 and August 2025, respectively. Despite a smaller number of turbines, the power output of the two wind farms will significantly increase, enabling the company to supply more households. Following repowering, around 60,000 two-person households in Meppen are to be supplied with electricity. Based on calculations, the Börger/Breddenberg wind farm will cover the annual needs of more than 20,000 two-person households, compared with around 6,600 households previously.

Over the past few months, ENOVA and its partners – the Frauenrath Group and BMR Energy Solutions GmbH (BMR) – have made significant progress on the repowering project at the Waldfeucht wind farm. ENOVA is delighted to announce the installation of the first of seven turbines.

The 14 Enercon E-66 wind turbines originally installed at the wind farm are to be replaced by seven Nordex N163 wind turbines, each with an output of 5.7 MW. “The more powerful wind turbines will make it possible to increase the wind farm’s net capacity from around 25 MW to just under 40 MW. Its future energy output will increase to approximately 102,300 MWh, enough to supply 36,000 two-person households,” says Björn Burau, Team Leader Investment and Asset Management at ENOVA. 

“We are grateful to have our excellent partners, the Frauenrath Group and BMR, working alongside us to achieve our repowering ambitions,” adds Burau. ENOVA has acquired the Panten-Bälau wind farm and at the same time entered into a partnership for repowering. It is now the 15th repowerable wind farm in Germany that ENOVA has acquired. The company, which is located in Hamburg and has its headquarters in Bunde, Lower Saxony, is starting a flagship project in Schleswig-Holstein.

At the Panten-Bälau wind farm, the old wind turbines on the existing sites are to be replaced with new, more efficient turbines as part of the repowering project. The Panten-Bälau wind farm was built in 2002 and comprises 16 NEG Micon NM 52/900 with 0.9 MW each and a total installed capacity of 14.4 MW. Together with its cooperation partner Naturwind, ENOVA plans to increase the output of the farm to 40 to 65 MW. The Panten-Bälau repowering project will be one of ENOVA's largest onshore wind farm projects since its foundation.

"We are pleased that we were able to enter into the cooperation with Naturwind as part of the transaction and thus have an established and qualified cooperation partner at our side to implement the repowering," said René Meyer, Senior Investment Manager of ENOVA. ENOVA Value GmbH has acquired together with WindStrom Unternehmensgruppe from Edemissen the wind farm Schacht-Konrad / Alvesse with a total of 5.4 MW, consisting of 3 Enercon E-66 with 1.8 MW each. The turbines were previously maintained by the subsidiary ENOVA Service GmbH. With the purchase of the park, the technical management as well as the asset management has now also been handed over to ENOVA. With the exception of the commercial management, which is carried out by our long-standing partner WindStrom, ENOVA can thus serve all areas from its own service portfolio.

With the acquired wind farm, another repowering project will be realized with our long-standing partner WindStrom. Thanks to the new regulatory provisions, WindStrom and ENOVA will be able to submit the BImSchG application this year. Commissioning is planned for the next two to three years.

"Thanks to the trusting cooperation with WindStrom, we are very confident that we will also be able to bring the Schacht-Konrad / Alvesse wind farm into the process in a timely manner in order to increase green value creation in the region," says Björn Burau, Team Leader Investment & Asset Management.

The Schacht-Konrad / Alvesse wind farm is now the 13th wind farm project acquired by ENOVA Value GmbH in around 2.5 years. The entire portfolio thus amounts to a total of around 135 MW. Together with local partners we aim to replace the wind farms with state-of-the-art wind turbines and to double or even in some cases triple the capacity. The first repowered WTGs (7x N-163 with a total of 39.9 MW) at the Waldfeucht wind farm in NRW will go into operation this summer.

The wind farm project in Uplengen continues to progress successfully. After ENOVA received approval for the project from the district of Leer in August last year in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG), another important milestone has now been reached with the financial close. At the same time, it is the first project for ENOVA to be implemented with the wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa. With the financing secured, the next steps can now be initiated. 

"There is still a lot to do before construction starts, but I am convinced that together with our colleagues from project development we will also successfully master the next steps," says Björn Burau, team leader for investment and asset management at ENOVA.

Project Development is currently pushing ahead with an environmental impact assessment. This is being carried out voluntarily by ENOVA and is simply intended to provide even more planning certainty. If everything goes as planned, construction of the wind farm is scheduled to begin in 2024. Commissioning of the three planned Siemens SG 6.6-155 wind turbines is then expected to be completed in summer 2024.

Finally, it's done. The remodeling of the offices at our main location has been completed.

ENOVA buys further wind farm in Lower Saxony

In cooperation with the WindStrom Group, ENOVA Value GmbH has acquired the wind farm in Hänigsen with a total of 8 MW - consisting of four wind turbines of the type Vestas V80 with 2 MW each. ENOVA continues to be on a growth course.

The purchased wind farm is to be used to drive forward a further repowering project. The repowering is expected to more than quadruple the wind yield at the site in Hänigsen.

ENOVA delighted by approval – construction planning now to be stepped up

The Uplengen wind farm project continues to progress. The Landkreis of Leer has granted a permit in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG). After eleven years of planning, the project is now moving swiftly ahead. The first turbines are scheduled to be commissioned in April 2024.

ENOVA Power, a family-owned business based in Bunde, is planning to erect three wind turbines at the Uplengen site. The process involves a number of technical and ecological expert opinions and an extensive approvals procedure. ENOVA Power had submitted a permit application under the Federal Immission Control Act to Leer’s district administration in December 2021.  They spent a number of months investigating whether the project could go ahead in view of potential immissions and environmental impacts.

“Approval from the Landkreis is a tremendous success for the entire ENOVA team. They’ve all engaged all of their expertise and enthusiasm in recent months to bring the project to this stage,” says Managing Director Hauke Brümmer. ENOVA Power’s specialist departments are now pushing the project’s planning forward with renewed vigour. If everything goes as planned, construction of the wind farm will begin next year. The first wind turbines are then scheduled to be commissioned in April 2024.

The three planned wind turbines are of the Siemens SG 6.6-155 type. They have a hub height of 122 metres and a rotor diameter of 155 metres. Total height is 200 metres. Energy yield will be around 51 million kWh p.a., which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of all of Uplengen’s private households.

ENOVA Power provided locals with comprehensive information about the project at a well-attended information day on 2 July at Uplengen village hall. “We will continue along these lines, because we want to maintain a dialogue about the project with the people from the region,” says project manager Hans Jürgen Maas.

Thirty-two years after it was founded, ENOVA Energiesysteme GmbH & Co. KG has a new name. Our corporate structure has grown steadily over the years, and to reflect this, our parent company has been given a name that clearly and unambiguously describes the company’s mission.

Almost exactly half a year after the acquisition of the 14 Enercon E-66 in the Waldfeucht wind farm, Heinsberg district (NRW), the most important milestone of a repowering has been reached. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our local partners – the Frauenrath Group and BMR energy solutions GmbH – the BImSchG permit for the planned repowering was obtained much earlier than planned.

“With the current approval, the cooperation partners plan to commission six Nordex N-163s, each with 5.7 MW, as early as 2023. The seventh WTG of the same type is still in the approval process. After commissioning, the new wind farm will produce over 100 million kWh of electricity per year,” says Björn Burau, team leader of Investment & Asset Management. “In arithmetical terms, this corresponds to the electricity needs of around 25,000 four-person households.”

Since the beginning of the year, ENOVA Value has acquired three further wind farm projects. ENOVA’s repowering planning has already begun for these projects as well. Further wind farms with start-ups from 2000 to 2006 are in the process of being purchased.

ENOVA Value, which was founded specifically to purchase and increase the value of old wind turbines, has now acquired its third project. In this case, a Repower MD77 wind turbine with 1.5 MW and commissioning in 2004 in Schleswig-Holstein and a Vestas V90 wind turbine with 2.0 MW and commissioning in 2005 in Brandenburg successfully changed hands.

“Our attractive offer structure, which also includes future value creation, absolutely convinced the seller here,” explains Björn Burau, team leader of the Investment & Asset Management department. “Both sites offer good repowering potential, so we expect new turbines to be built within the next few years.”

Since the beginning of this year, ENOVA Value has now already been able to acquire wind farms with around 40 MW of installed capacity and is making good progress towards its target of 100 MW by the end of 2022.

Further acquisition processes are already underway.

After the go-ahead in March this year, the ENOVA Group has now been able to expand its E-40 wind farm portfolio with two more WTGs. These two ENERCON E-40 5.40, built in 1996 and 1998 respectively, have also reliably produced green electricity in the southern part of Lower Saxony for many years.

With needs-based maintenance, which we ensure with our “Vario” maintenance concept from ENOVA Service GmbH, the E-40 will continue to operate for many years to come.

The ENOVA Group was able to expand its wind farm portfolio with a WTG from the pioneering days of wind energy. The ENERCON E-40 5.40 from 1994 was one of the first wind turbines of this type to be erected in Germany.

ENOVA would now like to continue operating this WTG for as long as possible. Thanks to the steady wind in East Frisia and a needs-based maintenance concept from ENOVA Service GmbH, the E-40 can continue to rotate for many more years and thus make an active contribution to the energy transition.

Repowering of this wind turbine is not possible due to the small distances to residential areas in the outskirts, as is the case with so many classic farm turbines. Nevertheless, the E-40 wind turbines are very robustly constructed and can continue to be operated for at least 5-10 years after the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) if wind conditions are good and appropriate maintenance, servicing and operational management are carried out.

“With the acquisition, maintenance and continued operation, we want to create an alternative to the threatened dismantling of the WTGs after the EEG,” says Björn Burau, team leader of the Investment & Asset Management department. “According to a study by Deutsche Windguard, around 12,000 wind turbines will fall out of the EEG in the next 5 years. Of these, around 50% cannot be repowered and must be dismantled if they cannot continue to be operated. Such a dismantling of existing plants must be prevented so that we do not lose the generation capacities necessary for an energy transition. Especially in the windy regions of Germany, we are able to operate older wind turbines for many years to come thanks to appropriate concepts and performance.”

ENOVA therefore intends to acquire further Enercon wind turbines, including the E-40 type, and is now looking for potential sellers.

ENOVA launches manufacturer-independent software for asset managers on the market

Bunderhee, 12.08.2021 ENOVA Energieanlagen GmbH has developed a Microsoft-based software solution that allows asset managers to manage all common types of turbines with a digital connection. With the new tool e.live, wind farms can be monitored independently of manufacturer and across portfolios. Whether energy and payment flows, weather forecasts or stock exchange prices: All relevant data is networked and evaluated fully automatically. The software is intuitive to use and can be quickly and comprehensively adapted to individual customer requirements.

“Because we did not find a suitable product on the market that met our requirements, we decided to develop our own solution for cross-portfolio wind farm management. In a unique way, we combine all data in one format. As a wind pioneer with 30 years of experience and as an official Microsoft reseller, we have the necessary know-how,” explains ENOVA’s team leader for technical operations management and IT Miriam Bruns.

Detecting deviations automatically

The programme clearly displays all relevant technical, commercial and financial key figures. In addition to plant data and weather forecasts, this also includes feed-in management calculations. Additional data such as financial models and key figures (DSCR, debt ratio, etc.) as well as detailed forecasts and external stock market data can be flexibly integrated.

e.live checks the performance of plants and service providers, identifies potential for improvement and checks whether conditions and deadlines are being met and whether the actual energy production corresponds to the forecast value. Because the programme links all data sources for evaluation in a data model, deviations can be detected automatically.

Faults, power reductions and interruptions in remote monitoring are transmitted to the plant manager. Decisive countermeasures, such as correcting incorrectly operating shade sensors, can be taken more quickly, which reduces yield losses. Maintenance and fault clearance operations can be optimised by uploading the dates, linking them to the forecasts and scheduling the operations on more cost-effective working days, for example. In addition to the technical data, the debt service coverage ratio is displayed so that bottlenecks can be reacted to at an early stage.

Claiming recourse

Historical data, on the other hand, can serve as a basis for recourse claims if, for example, the bat shut-off has failed and one wants to claim the losses.

All data is backed up in the Microsoft Cloud. The interactive reports are made available optionally online, by email or as an app. Because ENOVA continuously adapts the software to changing market conditions, it is always up-to-date.

“Of course, we also use e.live at our own parks,” explains Bruns. One of the first external users is a leading asset manager from Hesse, who uses the tool to manage an 80-megawatt portfolio of 31 plants between Lower Saxony and Bavaria.

First reference project of Enova Value: 25-megawatt wind farm in NRW

Bunderhee, 12.08.2021 With ENOVA Value, the ENOVA group has founded a new company that focuses on the purchase and value enhancement of old wind turbines. Together with shareholders, land owners, municipalities and other stakeholders, the new company develops individual solutions to enable economic continued operation or successful repowering. The company started its activities with the acquisition of a 25-megawatt wind farm in the Heinsberg district (NRW), which is to be repowered by 2025. ENOVA is currently in negotiations for further projects with the aim of acquiring around 100 MW of old wind farms by the end of 2022.

In Heinsberg, 14 Enercon E-66 turbines have been generating a yield of almost 40,000 MWh per year since 2004. Together with its local partners – the Frauenrath Group and BMR energy solutions GmbH – ENOVA now wants to replace the Enercon turbines with seven Nordex N-163 turbines, each with a capacity of 5.7 megawatts and a total height of 200 metres. The repowering should more than double the yield to 92,000 MWh per year with half the number of turbines.

Demand-oriented solutions

“With our concept, which is aimed at both potential sellers and cooperation partners, we want to deliver solutions especially for the approximately 1,600 wind turbines that will fall out of the EEG every year from 2021,” explains ENOVA Managing Director Hauke Brümmer.

As an experienced project developer, wind farm manager, operator and service provider, the group of companies brings many years of know-how in the planning, operation, maintenance and financing of wind turbines. While project development takes care of successful repowering, technical and commercial management ensures continued operation and optimises yields and costs. ENOVA Service, on the other hand, ensures cost-effective maintenance that is optimally tailored to the age and expected service life of the turbines. Since autumn 2019 ENOVA Wind Farm Management is offering vibration analyses within the scope of condition monitoring. In the course of expiring full maintenance contracts and continued operation of old wind power plants for more than 20 years, the early detection of major damages is an elemantary issue.

“Especially on rolling bearings of gearless wind turbines, harmful influences should be detected before they lead to damages. This enables us to have repairs carried out by the full maintenance contractor before the full maintenance contract ends. This prevents cost-intensive consequential damages and the associated plant failures”, says Technical Wind Farm Manager Ralf Brinkema. The vibration analysis is an essential component in the overall evaluation of a possible further operation of old plants which is superviced by the ENOVA Wind Farm Management. The results allow actuarial questions to be answered and give an estimate of the further operating time. That knowledge is an effective protection against expensive bad investments.

Oldenburg, Bunderhee, Leer, August 31, 2018. The EWE ERNEUERBARE ENERGIEN GmbH from Oldenburg and the ENOVA IPP GmbH & Co. KG from Bunderhee have bought the wind farm Hohegaste in the East Frisian town Leer. Each company acquired 50 percent of the shares from the previous owners. The wind farm has been repowered in 2017: 13 of the older wind turbines of the first generation have been replaced by four Enercon 101 wind turbines with a total energy output of 12.2 MW. The purchase price is kept in silence.
EWE and ENOVA will share the technical as well as the commercial tasks of the operation of the wind farm.

Dr. Jörg Buddenberg, Head of EWE ERNEUERBARE ENERGIEN, emphasized: “With the new wind turbines in Hohegaste we are expanding the onshore wind energy portfolio of the EWE Group to a total energy output of more than 280 MW. Our short and medium term goal is to continue to grow. The current cooperation with ENOVA shows that this can be done with a good partnership aswell.“

Hauke Brümmer, Head of ENOVA, pointed out: “We are happy to expand our existing portfolio, with our share in the wind farm Hohegaste, especially because it is located in our home region. With EWE, we have a partner whose services complement ours well. In this constellation, we are able to buy further repowering capable projects.”

EWE and ENOVA have been working together on projects in the energy transition for 15 years. In 2013 the energy provider and the wind farm project planner realized the first commercial off shore wind farm RIFFGAT in the German North Sea, among other projects.

At the beginning of 2018 ENOVA took over the technical management of 71 MW of the portfolio of the EWE AG. In the tender ENOVA prevailed against a large number of competitors. “We are very pleased. Being able to use our know-how to increase the performance of the EWE portfolio is great,” says Ralf Brinkema, Head of Technical Operations Management.
The wind farms will be transferred in two stages. By January 2018, 44 MW will be taken over by ENOVA, followed by another 27 MW in July 2018. The portfolio contains among others 1x ENERCON E112 with 4.5 MW, 1x E112 with 6 MW and 1x E126 with 7.58 MW.
About one year ago, ENOVA reorganized its operations management. Over the year, 19 wind turbines with a total capacity of 60 MW have already been added to the portfolio.
The acquisition of the EWE portfolio now underlines the successful realignment. Just in time for the turn of the year, ENOVA’s management breaks the 250 MW barrier.
The special features of the ENOVA management are e.g. the use of independent monitoring software, the absorption of operator obligations, short reaction times and the theoretical as well as the practical skills of the employees. In particular, the practical experience of the technicians on ENERCON wind turbines ensures a balanced relationship between operator and manufacturer/ service provider.

Since early 2017, ENOVA’s smart wind farm management offers a lean management with a focus on yield optimization, lifetime extension and compliance. Also worth highlighting is the need-based compilation of ENOVA service packages and modules: a small, smart package that only contains services that are necessary for a maximum energy output.
A “save package” that secures the operator and in which services in the area of occupational safety or plant inspections are taken over. Last but not least there are various extra modules that help the costumer to simplify the operation of the wind farm when needed, to better evaluate the performance and to make better decisions. Brinkema: “With these service packages, we can map every individual customer request at attractive conditions.”
