RIFFGAT – clean power times 120,000

The RIFFGAT Offshore Wind Farm is a joint project of EWE AG and ENOVA, and is the first commercial offshore wind farm completed in the German North Sea. It became fully operational in 2014. ENOVA actively spearheaded the subsections/packages from seabed exploration to approval planning, logistics, geotechnical engineering, and the selection and purchase of wind turbines. After twelve years of planning, work began in early 2012, about 15 kilometers northwest of the East Frisian island of Borkum, within the 12 sea-mile zone. The first wind turbine was assembled in the wind farm field early in May 2013. In mid-August, RIFFGAT was completely established in the North Sea.

Total capacity of 108 megawatts

In total, 30 wind turbines were installed with a combined capacity of 108 MW, allowing the offshore wind farm to supply around 120,000 homes with renewable energy. After the network connection was implemented at the start of 2014, RIFFGAT started feeding renewable electricity into the German grid.
